D-Link Buzz Episode 69 on 10/12/2009
by Esther Navaja
Hey guys! Welcome to another episode of the Buzz. I'm Esther Navaja.

And I'm Roger Nevarez and we're here to keep you updated on everything D-Link.

So hey, have you seen these new netbook things?

Sure have, they're pretty cool little gadgets. And little is what I love about them. It's like a mini laptop that I can use as a Wi-Fi or a cellular-enabled device. They're great because they have the Internet capabilities that my cell phone has, but I don't have to strain my eyes on such a tiny screen. Plus they're easier to carry around than a bulky laptop.

It seems like you're not the only one who's raving about these gadgets. Netbooks' share of the market has soared from 5.6 percent in the second quarter of 2008 to 22.2 percent last quarter. I love the idea of being able to connect to all these hotspots that are popping up everywhere. My creative juices really get flowing when I work as people watch from my local coffee shop.

You're right Wi-Fi demand is on the rise. These days we seeing more people stepping out from their homes and offices to get inspiration in the real world. People are multi-tasking personal business and career ventures while at coffee shops, restaurants and even laundromats.

Well you know, worldwide Wi-Fi hotspots continue to grow. Since June of 2004, JiWire, mobile audience media company, has seen 400% growth. Growth in 2009 from January to June is progressing at a rate of 9%.

The great news for marketers is that hotspot users have money and they want to spend it. 77% of people said they planned to make a big purchase in the next twelve months. 38% of those will make their purchases directly from a hotspot.

Since Wi-Fi is at such demand I think that offering Wi-Fi in your small business could definitely drive business. And D-Link has some great solutions to get your business connected. The D-Link AirPremierĀ® N DAP-2590 Dual Band PoE Access Point is the ideal solution for enabling selectable dual band wireless connectivity in any business. Pair it with the DFL-210 Network Security Firewall. It has numerous flexible features to help you manage, monitor and maintain a healthy and secure network.

I can see it now, sitting at my barber shop surfing the web on my netbook as I get a haircut.

No need to imagine Rog, it's really happening. And of course, you can also make a Wi-Fi hotspot at your home with a D-Link Xtreme N router.

That's going to do it for this episode of the Buzz guys I'm Esther Navaja.

And I'm Roger Nevarez. And make sure and catch us next week.
